Didgery Doings in Northampton
Mother
Didgegirl Tina often sang along to people jamming at festivals and gatherings. Here is a selection of recordings of different versions on the theme 'Mother'. Recorded at different times at different locations all with a different feel to them. Thanks also to Chalky for banging it out on drums.
Tina and Chalky visited me on the south coast one weekend in August 2006. On the Saturday evening we sat round until the early hours, talking, making music and generally having a right old laugh. Using a cheap cordless microphone hooked up to a 10w guiar practice amp via a 20yr old delay effects pedal with recorded on my portable gadget left to run in the background. At times we got it sounded together and other times... so here are extracts of the evening. I hope you enjoy listening as much as we had fun!
This extract is a fuller version lasting just over four minutes. Shorther version below.
Shorter version of mother starting about half way through when Chalky wants to pick up the pace.
Softer and slower this version is vocal and drums with some throat singing along the way.
September 2006 saw a wonderfull weekend hosted by Dan and Sarah at Grimstone Manor in Devon. This was recorded by the fireside. Myself on didge with others in the background. Although it's not Tina 'avin it with Mother, her daughter rewrites the the lyrics and performs her own version three quarters the way through :-)
This sample was recorded at Grimstone and is Tina singing 'Mother' with Chalky on drums in the background. An atmospheric version of the song.
Busking in Northampton
On a cold february Saturday morning, Chalky, Paul and myself braved the winter chill going outside with didgeridoo and drums to have a bash at busking in Northampton. It was, er, cold, and I think somewhat hungover from the didge club the night before. Notwithstanding all that, we got into it and gave it large to the folk of Northampton.
Didge Clubs in Northampton
There are two didge clubs hailing from Northampton, the M.D.C. (Midlands Didge Club) and N.D.C. (Northampton Didge Club). Held on different Fridays from each other, here are some extracts from the M.D.C. I highly recommend a visit to either or both clubs if you are ever the Northampton area - I know you will enjoy yourself.
February 2008 I was able to return to the M.D.C. in Northampton for a second time. Just as much fun as the first time I went. Thanks to Paul, Pete, Mandy, Chalky and others, can't wait til next time.
More from an evening with Tina and Chalky
Three samples of an Agave didgeridoo made by a chap from Israel, Goren (I hope I have the spelling right). During the eveing with Chalky and Tina and inbetween banging out different versions of 'Mother', we were calmer and chilled to the bass sound of this didge made from cactus.
Longer sample just over a minute long.
Short 20 second long sample, fairly quick rhythm.
Short 13 second sample - bassy, quick and with vocals.
